Apple bombed the mobile market with its launch of the Apple iPhone 12 series, which in fact, comes without a charger. While you may be planning to purchase the out-of-box charger at an extra price, there have been a lot of speculations going around if one can charge the new iPhone 12 using the old charger. Where some people claim that the old wireless charger is compatible with the MagSafe charge function, others simply have no clue.<\/p>\n

The Apple iPhone 12 series has the same old lightning-to-USB-C cable in the box, but without the adapter. So if you don\u2019t have the old charger with you, you would need to shell out some bucks on purchasing a new one. Moreover, there are no earphones or cases, so you\u2019ll need to purchase them at an extra cost too. While Apple is selling their own AirPods and MagSafe compatible chargers, there are some aftermarket options that won\u2019t break the bank, not to mention the range of cases and Apple iPhone 12 series chargers<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/a>Mini PD Chargers<\/u><\/a>\u00a0that ESR has rolled out.<\/p>\n

Can you charge the iPhone 12 with the old charger?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One short answer- Depends! While the new MagSafe Charger is compatible with the new series only, it can also work with the older generation iPhones that have the wireless charging feature.<\/p>\n

However, since the older iPhone models do not have the magnetic back feature, one may not be able to snap your iPhone into an ideal charging position, which you would manually need to locate. Only the iPhone 12 series support it. Other models like the iPhone 11 series, the iPhone SE 2nd Gen, iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, X, 8, and the 8 Plus can simply be placed on the MagSafe connector, however, they won\u2019t lock into place. AirPods models like the AirPods Pro, AirPods with Wireless Charging Case 2nd gen, Wireless Charging Case for AirPods are also compatible.<\/p>\n

If you are planning to use the lightning-to-USB-C cable to charge<\/a> the device, you can still use the old USB adapter to connect it to the charging cable and power up your device. If you have the older Wireless Charger<\/a>, that too will work without any trouble with the iPhone 12 series.<\/p>\n
