Introduction

2019 was a massive year for mobile phones. With so many big drops and so many technological advancements. If you found 2019 exciting, then wait till you see what 2020. The 2019 year has almost come to an end and so it is time to look at everything that went on this year and a sneak peek at what may make headlines next year. In this year’s review, we will look at all the biggest technology leaps that occurred and how next year’s phones may integrate these advancements.

What to expect

5G Compatibility

The latest innovation to hit the markets was 5G mobile connection capabilities. Some phones have already introduced this to the mobile market. However, 5G is still in its initial stages of rollout. Most follow up advancements to 5G are expected in mid-2020. Thus most high-end phones in 2020 are also expected to be 5G compatible. Improved mobile internet and range. This would allow for more work to be done and can lead to some very innovative advancements in different fields.

Improved Cameras

When the iPhone 11 Pro Max dropped this year, everyone commented that the biggest feature to change from the previous generations is the camera quality. One looks at the camera and you will notice how much work and development has gone into upgrading the camera. Alongside the iPhone 11 Pro Max, other phones like the Huawei P30 Pro and Nokia 9 PureView all have very advanced camera technology. The P30 Pro has a 108MP camera and the PureView has 5 cameras on the back. This appears to be just the beginning. The importance of camera quality on smartphones was probably motivated by a large number of users on social network sites that use their smartphones to take pictures. This number is only going to go up and introducing stunning camera qualities appear to provide mobile phone companies with the edge over their competition. Thus, it would be good to expect some impressive advances in this area next year.

Folding Screens

The folding screens have long been rumored to be the next step in mobile phone tech. The rumors lasted so long that they almost became myths. However, despite the hefty price tags, these phones became reality this year with the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Following that, a few other foldable-screen phones also came up. However, the hefty price tag appears to be a common factor among all these phones. Going into 2020, it is highly anticipated that the price of these foldable screen mobile phones will drop as a result of improved research and development in the phones.

New Phones

Motorola Razr V3

This phone is a ‘remake’ of the once-famous Motorola Razr flip phone. This new model takes on many characteristics of the original in that it is also a flip phone and has a chin. The biggest difference is certainly going to be the foldable screen. The nostalgia that comes from the Razr line appears to have sparked a lot of interest. However, despite being a Jan 2020 official release, this phone does not come with 5G capability. The reasons for this are unknown but have certainly disappointed the avid fans. There also appears to be some discontent over some of the structural properties of the Motorola Razr 2019. Ultimately, the nostalgia of the childhood favorite Razr appears to be the most important driving factor behind the interest. Disappointment or not, the Motorola Razr is certainly a phone to look forward to in 2020.

Samsung Galaxy S20

The Samsung Galaxy S10 dropped not too long ago with some of the options having some very impressive features like 5G and impressive cameras. The next flagship Samsung Galaxy S model is expected to be either an S11 or an S20. Either way, it is rumored to have some of the most impressive features. Some reputable tipsters have said that it would range from a 6.4 to a 6.9-inch screen with a curved display and refresh rates of 120Hz instead of the 60Hz in the S10. It is also expected that Samsung will use its newly trademarked SAMOLED screen although specific features are unknown.

Apple iPhone X Fold

Not much is known about this phone but there are some very strong rumors that Apple is going to drop a foldable phone in 2020. The rumors were largely fuels by patent documents that suggest Apple may be dropping such a phone. However, it is unclear if this phone is going to be dropping in 2020 or later. Apple has not made any statement of this yet but it would be a phone that is worth looking out for.

Conclusion

The above are the biggest phones that we would certainly say you should be looking out for. As always there are going to be plenty of surprises. Advances in technology that surface in early-2020 could lead to some very impressive phones popping up by the end of 2020. Samsung has a reputation for taking risks and introducing new technology in its commercially available phone like the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Edge. Thus, their phones must be looked forward to with great anticipation.
