Highlights from the Samsung Galaxy S23/S23+/S23 Ultra Conference held on February 3

Recently, Samsung held its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023, unveiling the Galaxies S23 and Book3. But did you miss the live conference? Relax. You can learn about the most important announcements made during the program in this article

Design of Samsung Galaxy S23

When you compare it to previous Galaxy S22 models, it’s safe to say that no significant improvements were made. Although the aluminum and 22% recycled plastic in the S23 and Plus have sharper corners than in the past, they still retain their classic look.

According to Samsung, There will be four color options: black, cream, green, and violet. Similarly, since its introduction in 2022 with the Galaxy Note line of devices, the S-Pen has become a staple of the Galaxy S series, making its way into the Galaxy S23.

The add-on has various applications beyond drawing, including document signing, screenshotting, controlling the camera, and more. In addition, the S-Pen is once again included in the box alongside the S23 series.

Fabric

Screen flat areas are more extensive than on the S23 Ultra, facilitating the use of the S-Pen. In addition, Corning Gorilla Glass Victory 2, an even more durable glass, can function for the screens of all versions.

One of the most exciting features of the Galaxy S23 line is the Advanced Vision Booster, which uses on-screen sensors to dynamically adjust the display’s color and contrast across three settings, depending on the surrounding lighting conditions. You can tweak the total lumen output between 1200 and 1750. An additional innovation is a display that automatically adjusts the brightness, contrast, and color gamut to make it more comfortable in low-light settings.

Next up is the Galaxy S23 featuring a 6.1-inch screen with FHD + resolution, peak brightness of 1500 nits, a 120Hz refresh rate, and AMOLED technology that supports HDR10 +.

The Galaxy S23+ has a similar display to the standard Galaxy S, but its screen is larger at 6.6 inches and has a similar resolution. It’s remarkable that even the 2022 version of Incredibly kept the exact hardware specifications (a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with Full High Definition+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate) as the 2022 version.

Audio

The updated Galaxy S23 is compatible with the playback and recording of spatial audio, just like the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The resulting soundscapes have a more convincing sense of depth. In addition, customers who take advantage of the company’s new launch promotion will have access to the company’s improved headphones.

To ensure the satisfaction of Galaxy S23 owners with the final product, the device supports professional two-channel recording (using both Galaxy Buds2) in stereo mode. In addition, when paired with a new premium smartphone, the headphones will serve as excellent microphones for recording video.

System and Security

All models come preinstalled with Android 13.1 and the One UI 5.1 user interface. In addition, the event showcased a number of the system’s new features, including its ability to answer voice calls via text (a feature Samsung dubs Bixby Text Call) and its ability to collaborate on edits in Samsung Notes when used with Google Meet.

The privacy and security menu is even more straightforward, which uses color to indicate the current security status (green for all systems go, yellow for caution, and red for extreme danger).

Battery

The Galaxy S22’s traditional battery life was criticized for being inadequate compared to other premium smartphones. However, the S23’s 3900 mAh battery is an increase of 200 mAh over the battery in the S22, so it can handle more power without draining as quickly.

By upgrading to the More model, you’ll have access to 4700 mAh—a 200 mAh improvement. Despite keeping the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra now has a new processor and One UI 5.1. It reduces power consumption and guarantees a longer battery life. Remember that the maximum time varies from person to person and from use to use.

Regarding charging, the Galaxy S23 is compatible with the 25W standard. That jumps to 45W thanks to your S23+ and S23 Ultra. Remember that in Brazil, every model will include a 25W charger at no extra cost! (a 45W charger will be sold separately).

Connectivity

The S23 series also has Wi-Fi 6 (not S23 e S23 +, which is Wi-Fi 6E), in addition to supporting the newest 5G networking standards (S23Ultra). Each model also features a built-in Bluetooth antenna, GPS, NFC, and fingerprint reader.

In the Galaxy S line, the S23’s Ultra-Wideband capabilities are a shining example. Controlling and pinpointing other connected devices is easier in this mode, so it’s the default. However, more effective implementation of Galaxy Smart Tag and similar devices must be implemented.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Satellite is just one of many features available. Like the iPhone 14, the feature enables automatic distress call requests via satellite communication without a cellular network signal.

Processor

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, in a Samsung-specific variant, will power every device in the S23 line. This processor is 30% more powerful in terms of central processing unit (CPU) speed, 40% more powerful in terms of graphics processing unit (GPU) speed, and more than 40% more (NPU). In addition, up to 3.36 GHz is possible from the processor.

A further innovation has arrived for mobile gamers; the new processor can implement hardware-accelerated, real-time ray tracing, which brings photorealistic lighting, reflections, and shadows to mobile games. In addition, Qualcomm noted that this processor also supports Vulkan APIs (version 1.3), which aids in porting desktop games to mobile devices.

Support for the Unreal Engine 5 Metahumans Framework, a tool for visualizing human characters in photorealistic detail, is among the final touches on this special edition of the Galaxy S23 line. In addition, Qualcomm claims that their Snapdragon Game Post Processing Accelerator functions like a specialized filter. This increases a video’s contrast, sharpness, and blurriness without sacrificing performance.
