5 Things About iPhone Hotspot You Should Know!

I’m dead sure you have done either of the following today. Before now, you have logged on to one or more of your social media accounts to post or catch up on buddies, read online news and articles like you’re currently reading, checked for the latest update on the happenings in your hood, catch up on the EPL (English premier league) or stream your favorite movie or entertainment channel. All thanks to the hotspot and wi-fi connections. It is such a life-saver!

Unlike the normal android phone which is quite easier to set up, it is quite different from the iPhone. Now you are wondering why your buddies never seem to be able to turn on or connect to your iPhone hotspot? Well, that is because they lack the “know-how”

So, if you want to get into the “know-how”? then read on

1. IPHONE HOTSPOT SETTINGS

 

First off, let me state that setting is an important factor you should get acquainted to in any device.

I am a gadget person so, each time I purchase a new gadget, I spend the first few hours getting acquainted with my new device by learning about the settings.

A good way to start is to get in the “know-how” of the whole setting process.

So, let’s unravel!

2. HOW TO TURN ON IPHONE HOTSPOT

 

This article will cover methods for both older and newer versions of the iPhone in this way, no one is left out. Split into two categories, follow the steps below to turn on your iPhone hotspot

CATEGORY 1 (newer iOS version)

Hey buddy, if you’ve got iOS 13 installed on your device that is, if you are using an iPhone X, XS, XR, 11 then you are in this category. So, all you need do is follow the steps below

HOW TO TURN ON IPHONE HOTSPOT

Step 1: initiate the control center by dragging down from the top corner

Step 2: Press and hold the block of four icons that represents the airplane mode, wi-fi and Bluetooth

Step 3: executing step 2 above opens a bigger block of icons consisting of the personal hotspot and airdrop

Step 4: Tap on the personal hotspot and it becomes “discoverable”

CATEGORY 2 (older iOS version)

It is important for me to give a nudge by informing you that it is not possible to turn hotspot from inside control center if you are using an older version of iOS except you navigate via settings (that is, within the setting).

Step 1: Open the Settings app, then tap on mobile data/cellular data

Step 2: click on the personal hotspot and tap the slider till it turns green to show personal hotspot is on

(N.B: iOS will ask if you want your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on (that is if they were previously turned off) else, the hotspot will be limited to USB

Step 3: Click on “Wi-Fi password” then enter your desired password.

(N.B: this should not be confused with your Apple ID or usual wi-fi connection)

However, if you are using iOS 13, you can still turn on hotspot via settings but in a pretty different way. Follow the steps below to do so;

Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone

Step 2: Tap on the personal hotspot (which is below mobile data/cellular data) and your hotspot automatically turns on

In order to set up a personal hotspot on your iPhone (which in turn makes your iPhone a wi-fi router), go to settings and maneuver to the personal hotspot and toggle on it.

Eavesdropper: scared if someone might be stealing your data connection without you knowing? Well Apple has always got you covered as every iPhone hotspot uses a password. Therefore, be sure to set up yours.

Also, there would be a trigger warning in the form of a notification at the top of your screen when a device accesses your hotspot.

So, your homie needs to connect to your hotspot but seems like your hotspot is not working. How do you go about fixing this?

3. HOW TO FIX IPHONE PERSONAL HOTSPOT NOT WORKING

First off, you need to know the functions of the iPhone personal hotspot (IPH). iPhone personal hotspot functions to allow you to turn your iPhone into a wi-fi hotspot that other devices, in this case, your homies’ can connect to.

So, here is how to fix the problem using any of the methods below

  1. Turn your cellular data off, then turn on again
  2. Check for carrier settings update

So, you are thinking, “what does this even mean?” well, I thought so too the first time I heard that. The carrier settings update helps improve your iPhone ability to connect to your carrier’s network.

To check for updates, use the step below

Step: go to settings, then click general. Maneuver to ‘about’ to check for a new update.

If there is an available update, a pop up is sure to appear within 15 seconds and if it does not, that means there is no update

  1. Restart your iPhone

  1. Update iOS on your iPhone following the command below

Open settings > tap general > software update to check if there is a new IOS available > tap download & install

  1. Reset your iPhone’s network settings

Open settings and tap general > reset, click on reset network settings. You will be prompted to tap reset network settings again to confirm your decision. Your iPhone will turn off, perform the reset and turn back on.

  1. Put your iPhone in DFU mode

DFU is the deepest form of iPhone restore as it restores erases and reloads every line of code on your iPhone.

Be sure to create a back up before doing so in order not to lose any of the data, file or information.

  1. Contact your wireless carrier

If either of the methods above did not work for you, there is a likelihood that the problem is with your cell phone plan or hardware so, contact your wireless carrier.

  1. Contact the apple store

Use this method only if method 7 didn’t work. You can also contact Apple support online to set up an appointment with their customer care

Still battling with personal hotspot issue but your buddy needs to surf the net and do some other stuff online, worry no more as the next subtopic got them covered

Eavesdropper: Just in case you don’t find a personal hotspot in settings, here is an alternative method to try. Go to settings > tap cellular > then proceed to tap personal hotspot.

4. HOW TO CONNECT IPHONE TO ANOTHER IPHONE HOTSPOT

Step 1: if you are sharing your hotspot from your iPhone, open Settings on your buddies iPhone

Step 2: click on wi-fi

Step 3: apparently, there would be several other wi-fi networks, yours included. Select yours

Step 4: depending on the version of iOS your phone is running on, you maybe required to log on

Eavesdropper: For the password, you can find that in;

  • settings > personal hotspot
  • settings > mobile data > personal hotspot

step 5: your buddy is now connected via your data connection

Having been able to fix your iPhone personal hotspot problem, then it is time to put it to test by connecting your iPhone hotspot to your computer. Here’s how

5. HOW TO CONNECT LAPTOP TO IPHONE HOTSPOT

 

How can you possibly chill while streaming on a smaller screen? That is going to be quite uncomfortable. Bet is better for Netflix and chill using your laptop. Larger screen, you know, quite cool and more enjoyable.

So, if you are looking to try that out be sure to follow these 4 simple steps below

If you are sharing your hotspot from your iPhone, you would see the Wi-Fi hotspot so, connect to it using your laptop

Step 1: begin by turning Wi-Fi on

Step 2: in the taskbar, click on the Wi-Fi icon

Step 3: Select your iPhone

Step 4: then click connect

Definitely, you would be prompted to enter a password. Input your password and voila! You have successfully connected your laptop to your iPhone hotspot.

  1. Since several weeks ago I cannot connect my Apple TV 3 to the Hotspot on my iPhone. And this used to work perfectly before, with the same Apple TV and the same iPhone. Apple TV SW 7.8 (8158). iPhone SW 15.0.2. What is strange is that my wife’s iPad succesfully connects to the hotspot on my iPhone, as does my Laptop. Can you help? I have tried all options except a full restore of my iPhone; restored Apple TV, Restored my iPhone’s network settings, changed the name of my iPhone, Changed the password of my Hotspot. The error I get after i choose on my Apple tv: Settings, general, network, wi-fi, choose my iPhone Hotspot: there was a problem connecting to the network. the wi-fi password you entered is not correct. try again. (-100).

    Can you help?
